A Pilgrim’s Path
A Pilgrim’s Path
On the edge of empire, the doctrine has begun,
The reckoning of men for what may come.
An American ventures on a pilgrim’s quest,
Recantation sought, though none resembles,
Tracing tides where an old anchor rests.
At his execution, the pastor’s voice trembles.
A Pilgrim’s path begins with the ripple of memory,
Through storms, through war, through loss, through gain.
A servant when he reigns must face eternity,
The pastor’s memory fades, yet truths remain.
Of the English and American, both set in heart,
Their schools of thought tear nations apart.
